Inspired by iconic American fashion moments, Donatella Versace presented a selection of looks at the Met Gala 2021 that encapsulate the brand's dedication to craftsmanship, storytelling and creativity.
Lil Nas X told a three-part LGBTQ+ American fairytale with his look for the 2021 Met Gala. He arrived on the red carpet in a dramatic cape that exudes regality and represents concealing one's true self. The cape was then shed to reveal gleaming Medusa-adorned armor, a symbol of protection from the prejudices faced as a Black, queer person. Finally, the armor is removed to reveal a skin-tight bodysuit that represents living life as your true, unguarded self.

Crafted in our Milan Atelier, Lil Nas X's Met Gala look told a three-part American fairytale from the point of view of a Black, LGBTQ+ musician making his mark in the music industry. The sweeping cape took 800 hours to create from plush velvet and a further 1,300 hours went into the intricate embroidery. The skin-tight bodysuit is adorned with hand-applied embroidery that took our skilled sarte over 1000 hours to complete.
